Experts warn that the "Disneyfication" of wild animals increases the demand for specific species to be used as photo props in the tourism industry or kept as pets to generate social media content. Furthermore, the proliferation of synthetic imagery is undermining the scientific foundation of environmental protection. A study published in the journal Conservation Biology in September 2026, co-authored by Professor Jose Guerrero-Casado, concluded that the rapid spread of AI misinformation represents a "major threat" to environmental efforts.
