Privacy Policy

TechNewsReel publishes technology news at technewsreel.com. This policy explains what data we handle when you read the site.
The short version
We do not require an account, we do not ask for personal information, and we do not sell data. You can read the entire site without submitting anything about yourself. We use Google Analytics to understand which stories readers find useful — and only after you agree to it.
Information we collect
- Server logs. Our web server records standard request data — IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, and browser user-agent. These logs are used to operate and secure the service and to diagnose faults.
- Local browser storage. We store your light/dark theme preference, and your answer to the analytics question below, in your browser's local storage. These stay on your device and you can clear them at any time through your browser settings.
- Google Analytics — only with your consent. If you accept when asked, Google Analytics records aggregate usage: pages viewed, approximate location from a truncated IP address, referring site, device and browser type. This tells us which stories are worth writing more of. Analytics storage is switched off until you accept, and declining costs you nothing — the whole site works either way. You can change your mind by clearing your browser storage for this site.
Information we do not collect
- We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or postal address to read the site.
- We do not operate reader accounts or logins on the public site.
- We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build cross-site advertising profiles. Google's advertising signals (ad storage, ad personalisation, ad user data) are disabled permanently on this site, not merely until you consent — we run no advertising.
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
Cookies
The public site sets no advertising cookies. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to count returning visits; if you decline, it sets none. Our editorial administration area, which is not accessible to readers, uses a token stored in the browser purely to keep an authorised editor signed in.
Third parties
Google Analytics is provided by Google, and data collected through it is processed under Google's privacy policy. It is the only third-party service that runs on our pages.
Links to other sites
Our articles link to original sources and other publications. Once you follow such a link you are on a third party's site, governed by their privacy policy, not ours. We have no control over their practices.
Social platforms
We publish links to our articles on social platforms such as Facebook. If you interact with us there, that interaction is handled by the platform under its own privacy policy and terms.
Data retention
Server logs are retained only as long as needed for operations and security, and are deleted on a rolling basis.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Because we do not operate reader accounts, we typically hold no information that identifies you personally beyond transient server logs. Contact us and we will respond.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and revise the date above.
