BBVA Adds AI to ePricer to Shift Structured Products from Pricing to Discovery

The bank's updated digital platform uses AI-driven 'On The Fly Ideas' to proactively suggest investment structures to institutional clients.

BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) has integrated artificial intelligence into its digital structured products platform, ePricer, to transform how institutional clients discover and manage investments. The update marks a strategic pivot from a reactive pricing tool to a proactive system for investment discovery.

Central to the update is the introduction of "On The Fly Ideas," a feature that leverages AI to suggest specific investment structures. These suggestions are generated based on the real-time context of the quotes a client is currently pricing, allowing for immediate discovery of alternative or complementary strategies. Alongside this, BBVA has launched "Price Roll & Alerts," which enables clients to reprice live structures and establish automatic notifications triggered by maturity dates or specific market targets.

A Broader AI Strategy

This integration is the first phase of embedding "BBVA Intelligence" into the ePricer platform. The move is part of a wider group-wide initiative to scale AI through a global AI Transformation area. According to the bank, the objective is to move beyond basic automation to create financial experiences that are personalized and proactive for both institutional and retail clients.

Blanca Gonzalez Anguita, Head of eIS eConnectivity Sales at BBVA CIB, noted that the bank is moving from a platform that simply responds to client pricing requests to one that helps them discover what to explore next. Daniel Hernandez, Head of eConnectivity at BBVA CIB, added that the current rollout is only the beginning of the platform's evolution, emphasizing the goal of turning technology into practical capabilities that improve the client experience.

Implications for Institutional Trading

For institutional clients, the update shifts the utility of the pricing platform from a transactional tool used primarily for obtaining a price to a strategic asset for lifecycle management and idea generation. By embedding predictive or generative AI into specialized B2B workflows, investment banks can increase client engagement and potentially drive higher trade volumes by surfacing opportunities that clients might not have manually searched for.

Future Outlook

As BBVA continues to roll out its AI Transformation strategy, the industry will be watching how these proactive discovery tools impact the speed of trade execution in structured products. While the initial phase focuses on discovery and monitoring, the long-term success of the integration will depend on the accuracy of the AI-driven suggestions and the extent to which institutional traders rely on automated prompts over traditional manual analysis.
