China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has formally rejected allegations from the United States that Chinese AI firms have engaged in the industrial-scale distillation of American AI models. The friction centers on allegations that Chinese companies, specifically Moonshot AI and its Kimi K3 model, distilled models from US firms such as Anthropic—specifically the "Fable" model.
