ChipAgents Raises $60M Series A2 to Automate Semiconductor Design

The Santa Clara startup expands its Nvidia partnership to develop specialized AI models for chip engineering.

TechNewsReel Newsroom · August 13, 2026

ChipAgents has raised $60 million in a Series A2 funding round led by B Capital to accelerate the automation of semiconductor design. The investment coincides with an expanded partnership with Nvidia to develop a specialized AI model tailored specifically for chip design.

Based in Santa Clara, California, the startup now reports total Series A funding between $131 million and $134 million. The company has seen rapid commercial adoption, reporting a sixfold growth in annual recurring revenue during the first half of 2026. Its AI agent platform is currently deployed at more than 120 semiconductor companies, including industry leaders Micron and MediaTek. With a team of approximately 64 employees, ChipAgents is positioning itself as a critical layer in the hardware development stack.

The Shift to Agentic AI

Traditional semiconductor design is a notoriously slow and capital-intensive process, often requiring several years of development and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment. Most existing AI tools in the space act as assistants that require constant human prompting and oversight.

ChipAgents is attempting to move the industry toward "agentic AI," utilizing autonomous programs capable of executing complex engineering tasks independently. According to CEO William Wang, the goal is to enable the industry to move beyond simple assistants toward autonomous agents that can execute meaningful engineering work. This approach aims to compress design timelines from weeks or months down to days or hours.

Industry Implications

The integration of autonomous agents into the chip design workflow could significantly lower the barrier to entry for custom silicon. By reducing the time and cost associated with hardware iteration, the entire AI industry may see a faster hardware cycle, allowing specialized chips to keep pace with the rapid evolution of AI software.

Daisy Cai, General Partner at B Capital, noted that ChipAgents has demonstrated a "rare combination of breakthrough AI innovation and exceptional commercial execution." The expanded collaboration with Nvidia is particularly strategic, as it suggests a move to integrate AI-driven design directly into the ecosystem of the world's dominant AI chipmaker.

Future Outlook

As ChipAgents scales its operations with the new capital, the industry will be watching to see if autonomous agents can handle the most critical, high-risk stages of chip verification and tape-out without human error. While the company has seen massive revenue growth and wide deployment, the long-term impact on the cost of custom silicon remains to be fully quantified as more of its 120+ clients move into full-scale production.
