Clearlake Capital Partners with Google Cloud to Scale Full-Stack AI
The private equity firm is integrating Google's end-to-end AI infrastructure into its $185 billion portfolio to move beyond isolated use cases.
Clearlake Capital and Google Cloud have entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate full-stack AI adoption and digital modernization across Clearlake's portfolio companies. The collaboration aims to move portfolio firms past standalone AI tools toward integrated, production-grade enterprise systems.
Under the terms of the partnership, Clearlake's portfolio companies gain streamlined access to Google Cloud's comprehensive AI stack. This includes the AI Hypercomputer—utilizing both TPUs and NVIDIA GPUs—as well as Vertex AI, Gemini Enterprise, and various multicloud cybersecurity solutions. Clearlake Partners Prashant Mehrotra and Tony La Rosa noted that driving durable value now requires this integrated approach, as artificial intelligence has evolved beyond simple point solutions. Alteryx is cited as a portfolio company already utilizing this full-stack integration.
The Operational Framework
This initiative is not a standalone agreement but is deeply integrated into Clearlake’s existing O.P.S. (Operations, People, Strategy) operational framework. To support the execution of these high-impact transformations, the firm has established Clearlake AI Labs. These labs are designed to help management teams within the portfolio navigate the transition from experimental AI to scalable enterprise requirements.
Paul Zimmerman, Managing Director of Private Equity at Google Cloud, stated that private equity sponsors and their management teams now recognize that the true business impact of AI requires a robust, end-to-end cloud and data foundation rather than mere access to large language models.
Industry Implications
This partnership signals a significant shift in how private equity firms approach technology investments. By institutionalizing AI deployment across a portfolio with over $185 billion in assets under management, Clearlake is attempting to create a scalable blueprint for value creation. Rather than treating AI as a series of isolated productivity gains, the firm is treating infrastructure as a competitive moat.
For the broader market, this suggests that the "AI hype" phase is transitioning into an infrastructure phase. The focus has shifted from which model is most capable to how that model is supported by the underlying data systems and compute power necessary to run it at scale.
Future Outlook
As Clearlake AI Labs begins rolling out these capabilities, the industry will be watching for measurable performance gains across the portfolio. The primary metric for success will be whether this full-stack approach leads to faster digital modernization and higher exit valuations for portfolio companies. While the infrastructure is now in place, the long-term impact will depend on the ability of individual management teams to integrate these tools into their core business operations.
