EDITED Integrates 5 Billion Retail SKUs Into AI Workspaces via Anthropic's MCP

The London-based intelligence platform enables developers to connect verified market data directly to AI agents to eliminate hallucinations.

London-based retail intelligence platform EDITED has launched EDITED MCP, a new data layer that integrates its extensive retail dataset directly into AI development environments. Launched on August 12, 2026, the move provides AI agents with verified market context to reduce hallucinations and eliminate the need for manual data exports.

Powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP)—an open standard created by Anthropic—the tool allows technical teams to connect real-time retail data to workspaces including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, VS Code, and Cursor. The integrated dataset is vast, covering 90,000 brands and more than 5 billion SKUs across the Apparel, Beauty, and Home verticals.

The Data Gap in Retail AI

This launch is part of a broader "AI+" roadmap from EDITED, following the release of AskEDITED, a conversational workspace powered by the company's specialist retail agent, "Edie." For 12 years, EDITED has focused on building a normalized retail dataset to solve a recurring industry problem: general-purpose large language models (LLMs) often lack the trusted, domain-specific data required for accurate retail analysis.

"Most AI projects fail for the same reason: the data underneath isn’t good enough to trust," said Doug Kofoid, CEO of EDITED. "We’ve spent twelve years solving that problem. Now retail AI teams finally have something worth building on."

Moving Toward 'Retail Superintelligence'

By providing a direct API-driven connection to verified data via an open protocol, EDITED enables developers to build what the company calls "Retail Superintelligence" agents. These agents can answer complex business questions—such as identifying why a specific product category missed its sales targets—using factual accuracy rather than the probabilistic guesses typical of standard LLMs.

David Hartig, CTO of EDITED, noted that combining Anthropic's protocol with EDITED's dataset allows a developer to receive a "real answer in seconds, not a guess dressed up to sound confident."

What's Next for the Platform

While the current release targets developers and technical teams, EDITED has indicated that its roadmap includes a simpler, click-to-connect experience designed for non-technical teams. This would expand the accessibility of the data layer beyond those comfortable with AI development environments, potentially bringing real-time market intelligence to a wider range of corporate retail roles, from buyers to merchandise planners, ensuring that data-driven decision-making is not limited to the engineering department.
