Google Links Play Books to Gemini Notebook for Grounded AI Analysis
Users can now import purchased ebooks into Gemini Notebook to generate reports, quizzes, and AI-generated podcasts.
Google has integrated Google Play Books into Gemini Notebook, formerly known as NotebookLM, allowing users to import their purchased ebooks as primary sources for AI analysis. This update transforms digital libraries into interactive datasets, enabling users to query specific texts and generate synthesized content based on their own owned literature.
As part of the company's "Expert Intelligence" initiative, the feature currently supports over 100,000 titles. These include works from major publishers such as Penguin Random House, Macmillan, O'Reilly Media, Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, and Johns Hopkins University Press. Once imported, these texts serve as the grounding for the AI, which can then produce AI-driven analysis, including infographics and "Audio Overviews"—AI-generated podcasts that discuss the source material.
The Shift to Grounded Research
Gemini Notebook was designed as a personalized AI research assistant, allowing users to upload a variety of sources including websites, documents, and videos to create a closed-loop knowledge base. By adding Google Play Books, Google is expanding this capability to formal published literature.
