HoneyBook Launches Claude Connector to Bring Agentic AI to Small Businesses

The new MCP-based integration allows SMEs to manage CRM data and operational tasks directly through Anthropic's AI assistant.

HoneyBook has launched "HoneyBook MCP," a new connector for Anthropic's AI assistant Claude designed to integrate CRM data directly into the AI's workflow. The move provides small business owners with an operational agent capable of managing real-time business data and executing administrative tasks.

Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the connector enables Claude to retrieve specific business records, such as invoice payment statuses and lead tracking, to answer user queries. Beyond simple retrieval, the integration allows the AI to perform active operational actions, including creating contracts, sending invoices, and updating project dates. To address data privacy concerns, HoneyBook utilizes an isolated sandbox environment for these requests, which is expunged after each session to ensure Claude does not retain private business information.

Closing the AI Adoption Gap

Founded in 2013, HoneyBook serves as a CRM platform for small and medium-sized enterprises, specifically targeting consultants, creatives, and event professionals. The launch responds to a widening technological divide between large corporations and smaller firms. According to data from McKinsey, nearly 50% of companies with revenues exceeding $5 billion have integrated AI into their everyday operations, while only 29% of companies with revenues under $100 million have done the same.

By turning its system of record into an actionable data source for agentic AI, HoneyBook is positioning itself to bridge this infrastructure gap. The company emphasizes the financial incentive for this transition; a HoneyBook study found that small businesses that adopt AI earn nearly five times more revenue than those that do not.

From Generative Text to Operational Agency

This integration marks a strategic shift in how solopreneurs interact with artificial intelligence, moving from using AI as a generative writing tool to employing it as an operational agent. By managing the client lifecycle—from initial lead follow-up to final invoicing—within a single chatbot interface, business owners can reduce operational overhead and the need to manually toggle between disparate software tools.

"Giving our members a way to ask a business question and get the answer from what’s actually in their account, not a guess, changes how the workday starts," said Helena Bachar, HoneyBook Senior Product Manager.

Future Outlook

As the industry moves toward "agentic" workflows, the success of the HoneyBook MCP connector will likely depend on the willingness of SMEs to trust AI with direct access to their financial and client records. While the sandbox environment provides a technical safeguard, the broader trend suggests a push toward deeper integration between CRM systems and LLMs to automate the administrative burdens of small business ownership.
