Mars Launches Hungr.AI to 'Feed' Hallucinating AI Assistants

The confectionery giant leverages its iconic 'You're not you when you're hungry' slogan to engage users within the generative AI ecosystem.

Mars, Inc. has launched Hungr.AI, a digital brand activation introducing the world's first AI-generated Snickers bar. The campaign invites users to interact with their AI assistants using a conceptual digital product when the technology malfunctions.

Under the Hungr.AI initiative, users visit the official Snickers website to obtain a digital chocolate bar. This asset is intended to be offered as a "byte" to AI assistants when they are "acting out of sorts" or producing hallucinations. By reframing AI inaccuracies as "hungry moments," Mars applies its long-standing "You're not you when you're hungry" slogan to the quirks of generative AI. Ashley Gill, brand and content vice president of Mars Snacking, stated that because Snickers has long been the remedy for out-of-character moments, the company is now "playfully reinventing" how the brand connects with fans as AI becomes part of everyday life.

A Shift to Digital-First Marketing

Historically, Snickers has relied on occasion-based marketing, centering its brand identity on the idea that hunger triggers personality changes. However, as generative AI integrates into daily routines, Mars is shifting toward experiential and digital-first strategies. This approach allows the company to maintain cultural relevance and engage with a tech-savvy audience without the financial risk or logistical overhead associated with physical product innovation, such as developing new flavors or formats.

The AI as a Marketing Channel

This campaign represents a strategic pivot in confectionery marketing by treating AI tools as a legitimate consumer marketing channel. Rather than focusing on the physical consumption of chocolate, Mars is creating a "Tamagotchi" effect, where the AI assistant becomes a playful target for brand interaction. In this environment, the "product" is no longer a consumable good but a conceptual tool used to drive engagement in a purely digital space.

Future Implications

Industry observers are watching to see if this conceptual approach to branding can translate into increased loyalty or sales for physical Snickers products. While the Hungr.AI bar exists only as a digital asset, the move signals a broader trend of brands attempting to colonize the interface between humans and their AI agents. It remains to be seen if other consumer packaged goods companies will follow suit by creating non-physical versions of their products to solve digital-native problems.
