Meetily has launched an open-source AI meeting assistant designed to process audio and generate summaries entirely on a user's local machine. The tool provides a privacy-centric alternative to dominant cloud-based services, allowing users to manage sensitive corporate data without relying on external servers.

Built using the Rust programming language, Meetily runs locally on both Windows and macOS. The software utilizes Parakeet and Whisper for transcription and leverages Ollama for local summarization. Unlike many of its competitors, the tool is "bot-free," meaning it captures audio directly from the device rather than requiring an AI participant to join the virtual call. Meetily is available via a free Community Edition, while a Pro version offering advanced features is priced at $10 per month or $120 per year.

The Shift from Cloud to Local

The AI meeting assistant market has long been dominated by SaaS providers such as Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai. While effective, these models typically require recurring monthly subscriptions and necessitate the upload of confidential conversations to the cloud.
