Run For Something Launches CampSight to Help Candidates Manage AI Narratives

The new tool allows political candidates to monitor how LLMs describe them to voters and optimize their digital footprints.

The progressive political organization Run For Something has launched CampSight, an AI-driven tool designed to help political candidates monitor and influence how large language models (LLMs) describe them to voters. The tool addresses a growing gap between a candidate's intended messaging and the synthesized narratives generated by chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

CampSight operates by mimicking voter interactions within real browser sessions to identify discrepancies between a candidate's self-description and AI-generated responses. To provide a comprehensive view, the tool allows candidates to see how different voter personas—such as a retiree versus a single mother—receive varying answers about a candidacy. Based on these findings, CampSight provides actionable recommendations on keyword optimization, content detailing, and website structure to improve a candidate's "AI presence."

The Shift to AI Optimization

As millions of voters increasingly turn to chatbots for political information, campaigns are finding that traditional search engine optimization (SEO) is no longer sufficient. LLMs create cohesive narratives by synthesizing training data and web searches, but they do not treat all sources equally. AI chatbots frequently omit information from news companies that have sued AI firms or publications hidden behind paywalls. Instead, these models rely heavily on non-paywalled content and platforms like Ballotpedia and Reddit.

This shift has created a new frontier of digital campaigning. The organization found that some legitimate candidates in statewide races were completely omitted from chatbot responses simply because their web information was poorly structured.

Implications for Grassroots Campaigns

This evolution means a candidate's public identity is no longer defined solely by their own statements or press reports, but by how an algorithm synthesizes fragmented data. Amanda Litman, cofounder of Run For Something, stated that there is already "so much discrepancy" between how candidates describe themselves and how AI describes them.

By providing these capabilities to grassroots candidates, CampSight aims to democratize "AI presence" management, a resource previously available primarily to wealthy presidential campaigns. This allows smaller campaigns to combat algorithmic invisibility and ensure their platforms are accurately represented in AI-mediated conversations.

Future Outlook

As AI continues to integrate into the voter research process, the focus for campaigns is expected to shift toward structured data that LLMs can easily parse. While CampSight provides a starting point for monitoring, the long-term impact of AI-driven narratives on election outcomes remains a critical area of observation for political strategists and election monitors.
