Spur Intelligence Secures $200M from Insight Partners as Bot Detection Demand Surges
The IP intelligence firm plans to scale its platform that identifies anonymized traffic from residential proxies and VPNs.
Spur Intelligence announced a $200 million investment from Insight Partners on July 28, 2026, as enterprises scramble to distinguish human users from sophisticated bots hiding behind anonymization infrastructure.
The funding will accelerate product development and expand Spur's customer footprint as demand for infrastructure-aware security intelligence intensifies.
The Blind Spot in Modern Security
Traditional security stacks struggle to see past the "last-mile" IPs that threat actors use in inbound attacks. Criminal networks increasingly deploy residential proxy services and AI-driven infrastructure to mimic legitimate users, bypassing CDNs, web application firewalls, and fingerprinting tools.
"As sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot: they can see the activity, but not the infrastructure behind it," said Thomas Krane, Managing Director at Insight Partners.
Spur closes this gap by providing real-time session enrichment, attributing traffic to specific anonymization services rather than relying on IP ranges alone.
Scale of the Problem
Spur's 2026 IP Intelligence Study found that 94% of organizations encountered anonymizing VPNs or residential proxies in security incidents. The platform observes more than 230 million unique anonymized IPs every 90 days and identifies approximately 60 million suspect IPs daily across 1,000+ VPN and proxy services.

Market Shift Toward Infrastructure Awareness
The $200 million investment signals a broader market shift toward infrastructure-aware security. As AI makes bot traffic more human-like and residential proxies make IP-based blocking ineffective, attributing traffic to specific anonymization services has become critical for fraud prevention and national security applications.
Spur's technology detects residential proxies, VPNs, and AI-driven infrastructure to identify the true origin of internet traffic. The approach moves beyond traditional fingerprinting, which threat actors can evade, toward persistent intelligence about the infrastructure itself.
Insight Partners' backing underscores growing investor confidence in this category. The firm has previously invested in security companies addressing emerging threat vectors, and Spur's focus on the anonymization layer fills a gap conventional vendors have struggled to address.
The funding comes as bot traffic has become indistinguishable from human users without specialized intelligence. Security teams can no longer rely on rate limiting or behavioral analysis alone when attackers route requests through legitimate residential IP networks.
Spur plans to use the capital to expand detection capabilities and reach more enterprises facing these challenges. The company's customer base has grown as organizations recognize that anonymized traffic is no longer a niche concern but a pervasive element of modern attack campaigns.
