Thailand Deploys AI Across Government to Automate Public Services

Thailand is aggressively expanding the integration of artificial intelligence across its government agencies to accelerate the digitalization and automation of public services. Led by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) and the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), the initiative aims to streamline state operations and position the country as a regional leader in AI adoption.

To manage this transition, the MDES and ETDA have launched the "Generative AI Governance Guideline for Organizations." This framework ensures that the deployment of AI tools within the public sector remains responsible and transparent. Beyond internal policy, Thailand is elevating its role in the global discourse on technology; the government is partnering with UNESCO to host the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI 2025. Titled "Ethical Governance of AI in Motion," the forum will take place in Bangkok from June 24-27, 2025.

The Digital Thailand Vision

This push toward automation is the latest evolution of the "Digital Thailand" vision, a multi-year strategy intended to transform the nation's economy and society through technological integration. While earlier phases focused on general digitalization, the current shift prioritizes AI to handle complex administrative tasks. By integrating these tools, the state aims to modernize the underlying infrastructure required to sustain high-compute AI workloads and maintain a competitive edge in the region.

Reducing Bureaucracy

The systematic adoption of AI in government services is expected to significantly reduce bureaucracy and improve the overall efficiency of public administration. By automating routine processes, the state can enhance the speed and quality of citizen services, reducing the friction typically associated with government interactions. By establishing governance guidelines simultaneously with deployment, Thailand is attempting to balance the speed of technological adoption with necessary risk mitigation and ethical standards.

Looking ahead, Thailand intends to leverage these domestic improvements to establish itself as a regional AI learning hub.
