Foxconn Ditches VMware for Arcfra HCI to Power AI Factory Workloads
The manufacturing giant is among several enterprises fleeing Broadcom's VMware strategy in favor of specialized hyperconverged infrastructure.
Foxconn has replaced VMware virtualization and SAN storage with hyperconverged infrastructure from Singapore-based Arcfra, deploying the platform across branch factories in Mainland China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and North America.
AI and GPU Virtualization at the Edge
The electronics manufacturer is using Arcfra's Neutree model-as-a-service platform, which provides native GPU virtualization and model governance capabilities. Arcfra states Foxconn adopted Neutree "to modernize distributed factory infrastructure and improve how AI models were delivered, managed, and observed across environments."
The move underscores a broader industry shift toward software-defined infrastructure capable of handling GPU virtualization and model-as-a-service deployments at edge locations like factories, where AI and intelligent manufacturing workloads are increasingly concentrated.
Broadcom's VMware Exodus Continues
Foxconn joins a growing list of enterprises migrating away from VMware following Broadcom's acquisition and subsequent strategy shift targeting only the largest customers. Tesco, Western Union, and Allstate have also sought alternatives as licensing and pricing changes reshape the virtualization market.
Arcfra, which launched in 2024, was named a Representative Vendor in Gartner's 2025 Market Guide for Full-Stack HCI Software, positioning itself as a modern alternative to traditional virtualization stacks.
Distributed Manufacturing Infrastructure
The deployment spans Foxconn's geographically distributed factory network, replacing legacy architecture with Arcfra's HCI platform in remote offices and branch locations. The company did not independently confirm specific details about its former VMware setup or migration timeline.
The adoption highlights how large manufacturers are rethinking edge infrastructure to support AI workloads closer to production environments, rather than relying on centralized data centers for model delivery and inference.
