Ilya Sutskever's SSI Emerges From Stealth With Nvidia Partnership

Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), the AI safety lab founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, ended two years of stealth mode in July 2026 with the announcement of a long-term strategic partnership with Nvidia. The deal includes a substantial financial investment from the chipmaker and grants SSI access to Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin GPU platform, according to TechCrunch and Nvidia's official newsroom.

Compute at Scale

The Vera Rubin platform is expected to increase SSI's compute resources by an order of magnitude, enabling the lab to scale its research into safe artificial superintelligence. Sutskever said in a statement to TechCrunch: "We have research that is worthy of scaling up, and having access to a big NVIDIA computer will let us do so. We are confident that our big bet on the Vera Rubin platform will take us to the next level."

TechCrunch reports that Nvidia's investment "stretches into multiple billions" of dollars, though the exact amount remains undisclosed. The investment is separate from SSI's total capital raised, which now stands at $7 billion across all investors, valuing the company at $32 billion post-money.

The lab was founded in 2024 by Sutskever, Daniel Gross, and Daniel Levy following Sutskever's departure from OpenAI, where he previously led the Superalignment team. According to Calcalist Tech, Gross has since departed SSI to join Meta, and Sutskever now serves as CEO.
