X Money Launches in US With Apple Wallet Support, Metal Visa Card
Elon Musk's payments platform rolls out to Premium subscribers with 6% APY and peer-to-peer transfers.
X Money has officially launched in the United States, advancing Elon Musk's ambition to transform the social platform into an everything app. The service began rolling out to Premium and Premium+ subscribers on June 25-26, 2026, with a wider expansion announced July 27 that moved beyond the invite-only beta phase.
Digital Wallet and P2P Payments
The platform provides a digital wallet and peer-to-peer payment capabilities similar to Venmo. Users can send money directly through X, integrating financial transactions into their existing social media experience.
A key feature is Apple Wallet support, allowing users to add their X Money virtual card for contactless payments. This integration positions X Money to compete directly with established fintech players like PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo.
Physical Card and Rewards
Users can obtain a metal Visa debit card emblazoned with their X username. The card offers 3% cashback on purchases.
X Money provides 6% APY on deposits, with FDIC insurance coverage up to $10 million through a partnership with Cross River Bank. These terms exceed what many traditional banks and fintech competitors currently offer.
Strategic Vision
The launch represents a significant step in X's evolution from a social network to a financial hub. Musk has long cited China's WeChat as a model for combining social media with financial services in a single platform.
By leveraging X's existing user base, the company aims to drive rapid adoption of its new financial ecosystem. The initial rollout targeted Premium and Premium+ subscribers before expanding to a broader set of users in late July.
The move intensifies competition in the US digital payments market, where X will need to overcome regulatory scrutiny and build user trust to challenge entrenched incumbents.
