ZTE and SKY47 Launch Karakoram-01, Pakistan's Largest AI-Ready Data Center
The new Tier III facility aims to bolster national digital sovereignty and AI capabilities under the 'Digital Pakistan' vision.
ZTE and SKY47 have launched Karakoram-01, marking the debut of Pakistan's first and largest purpose-built, AI-ready Tier III data center campus. The facility was officially inaugurated on July 24 by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The campus is designed specifically for high-performance computing (HPC), AI acceleration, and sovereign cloud services. According to technical specifications provided by Mobile World Live and Telecompaper, the data center features a total power capacity of 8.5MW. ZTE served as the primary technical partner, delivering an end-to-end solution that included the completion of the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) deployment within an eight-month timeframe. Hasnain, Director Passive of SKY47, described the ZTE delivery team as the "most comprehensively competent" he had encountered.
Strategic Digital Alignment
The development of Karakoram-01 is a key component of the 'Digital Pakistan' strategic vision. This government-led initiative seeks to aggressively expand the nation's digital economy, enhance cybersecurity frameworks, and modernize overall digital capabilities. The project builds upon a pre-existing relationship between ZTE and Pakistani infrastructure, as the Chinese telecommunications giant has previously collaborated on solar energy projects within the Punjab province.

By establishing a Tier III facility of this scale domestically, Pakistan reduces its systemic reliance on foreign cloud infrastructure.
