Anchorage Digital Integrates Frgmnt Stablecoins for Institutional Clients
The federally chartered crypto bank now allows institutions to mint and stake fUSD directly within its custody environment.
Anchorage Digital has partnered with Frgmnt to provide institutional clients with direct access to fUSD and sfUSD stablecoins. The integration allows professional investors to interact with on-chain assets without leaving a regulated banking environment.
Under the new arrangement, institutions can hold, mint, stake, unstake, and redeem these assets within their existing Anchorage custody and operational framework. By embedding these capabilities, Anchorage removes the requirement for institutional users to establish separate, third-party custody arrangements to interact with Frgmnt's on-chain infrastructure. Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. operates as a federally chartered crypto bank regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
The Frgmnt Protocol
Frgmnt is a stablecoin protocol built on the Base network. Its primary asset, fUSD, is minted against USDC. To make the capital productive, the protocol deploys the backing of fUSD across selected on-chain lending markets and yield strategies. Users who hold fUSD can stake the asset to receive sfUSD, which allows them to earn rewards generated by the protocol's underlying strategies.
Bridging DeFi and Banking
This partnership arrives as corporate treasuries, fintechs, and funds seek regulated pathways to engage with decentralized finance (DeFi). While Frgmnt provides the mechanism for stablecoin capital to remain productive via lending markets, Anchorage provides the regulatory and security framework necessary for institutional compliance.
Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, stated that institutional adoption of on-chain finance depends on combining access to innovative protocols with the security and operational standards institutions expect. Aurélien Roussel, CEO and Co-Founder of Frgmnt, added that institutions should be able to access on-chain financial products through infrastructure that meets their specific operational and custody requirements.
Industry Implications
The integration effectively lowers the operational barrier for institutional capital to enter the Base ecosystem. By bridging the gap between a federally chartered bank and a DeFi protocol, the partnership demonstrates a shift toward "institutional-grade" DeFi, where yield-bearing assets are accessible through traditional banking rails rather than fragmented wallet solutions.
What to Watch
Market participants will now be watching for the volume of institutional capital migrating into the Base network via this pipeline. While the technical and regulatory integration is complete, the scale of adoption will depend on the performance of Frgmnt's underlying lending strategies and the appetite of OCC-regulated entities for on-chain yield.
