Bitcoin Tests $63,000 Support as Market Shrugs Off In-Line US CPI Data

The leading cryptocurrency failed to break out despite inflation figures matching forecasts, signaling a 'sell the fact' sentiment among traders.

Bitcoin price dipped below $64,000 and tested critical support near $63,000 following the release of the July US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The price action suggests a "buy the rumor, sell the fact" reaction, as the asset failed to achieve a breakout despite inflation data aligning with market expectations.

According to data reported by The Crypto Times and Cointelegraph, the July US CPI rose 0.1% month-over-month, matching consensus forecasts. Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, increased 0.2% monthly, also meeting expectations. During the subsequent price slip below $64,000, Bitcoin reserves on Binance reached 667,500 BTC.

Market Consolidation and Fed Expectations

This price movement follows a multi-week consolidation phase for Bitcoin, which has faced persistent overhead resistance in the $65,000 to $65,500 range. Investors had viewed the CPI print as a potential catalyst for a breakout, while simultaneously weighing the probability of Federal Reserve interest rate pauses in September against a backdrop of weak labor-market data.

Fabian Dori, CIO at Sygnum Bank, noted that an in-line CPI print, following a previous jobs report showing a loss of 23,000 positions, points toward a gradual cooling of the economy. Dori suggested this trend occurs without triggering a recession scare or a fresh hawkish re-pricing of assets.

Implications for Technical Support

The muted reaction to the data suggests that Bitcoin may be decoupling from simple inflation surprises, becoming more sensitive to the broader Federal Reserve policy trajectory and specific technical levels. The failure to rally on neutral news has raised concerns about the stability of the current price floor.

Analyst Rekt Capital highlighted the fragility of the current setup, stating that the support at approximately $63,000 is "progressively weakening." Rekt Capital warned that if the bounces continue to lose momentum, the floor could simply break, potentially triggering a more significant bearish shift in market sentiment.

Outlook for Digital Assets

With the CPI catalyst exhausted, traders are now shifting their focus to the upcoming Producer Price Index (PPI) data for further directional signals. Market participants will be watching to see if the $63,000 level holds or if the weakening support leads to a deeper correction. While the macroeconomic cooling described by Sygnum Bank is generally viewed as a positive for risk assets, the immediate technical pressure on Bitcoin suggests a period of continued uncertainty.
