BNY Mellon's Belgian subsidiary BNY SA/NV has been added to the European Securities and Markets Authority's interim register of Crypto-Asset Service Providers, signaling deepening integration between traditional banking and the EU's crypto regulatory framework.

MiCA Register Expands

The entity was included in the third update to ESMA's MiCA register following the regulation's transition deadline, according to reports from Foresight News and Chainora.ru in late July 2026. The update added 15 new CASPs, bringing the total number of registered providers to 309.

ESMA maintains the register as a collection of CSV files on its website, with weekly updates scheduled until a centralized database goes live in mid-2026. The first post-deadline update on July 3 added 37 CASPs, reaching 280 total registrants. A second update on July 16-17 brought 14 more providers, pushing the count to 294.

Traditional Finance Enters Crypto Oversight

BNY Mellon's inclusion signals growing participation from established financial institutions in Europe's regulated crypto market. The bank has been expanding its digital asset capabilities.

The Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation creates the EU's comprehensive framework for crypto-asset issuance and service provision. As the transition period concluded, ESMA began consolidating authorized CASPs into a central register.

Registration Details Unconfirmed

ESMA's official website showed its last update on July 16, 2026, while third-party reports dated the BNY Mellon inclusion to July 27. The exact composition of the 15 providers in the third update beyond BNY Mellon has not been independently verified through ESMA's published files.

The registration validates the compliance pathway for institutional crypto services in Europe and suggests major financial institutions are prioritizing MiCA authorization to access the European institutional market.
