Charles Schwab Adds Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to Crypto Platform
The financial giant expands 'Schwab Crypto' beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum to offer broader altcoin exposure.
Charles Schwab has expanded its digital asset capabilities to include a broader range of cryptocurrencies beyond its initial offerings. The firm is now integrating Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), and Chainlink (LINK) into its trading ecosystem.
Following the May 2026 launch of 'Schwab Crypto,' which debuted with Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), the company announced this strategic expansion to provide clients with more diverse exposure to the blockchain sector. Transactions on the platform are subject to a fee of 0.75%, or 75 basis points, per trade.
The Shift Toward Diversification
For years, traditional brokerage firms viewed the crypto market through a narrow lens, focusing almost exclusively on the two largest assets by market capitalization. By adding Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink, Schwab is acknowledging the growing utility and institutional interest in smart-contract platforms and oracle networks. This move reflects a broader trend where legacy financial institutions are transitioning from cautious observation to active integration of decentralized finance (DeFi) infrastructure.
Market Implications
Institutional adoption of diverse crypto assets by major Wall Street firms typically signals increased market legitimacy and liquidity. When a firm of Schwab's scale provides a regulated gateway to assets like SOL and AVAX, it lowers the barrier to entry for millions of retail investors and institutional portfolios. This shift often leads to reduced volatility over the long term as professional risk management standards are applied to assets that were previously dominated by speculative retail trading.
What's Next
Industry observers will now watch for whether Schwab introduces more complex crypto products, such as staking services or integrated custody solutions for these new assets. While the current expansion focuses on trading access, the integration of Chainlink suggests a potential interest in the data feeds and smart-contract automation that underpin the next generation of financial products. It remains to be seen if further altcoins will be added to the roster in the coming quarters.
