Financing the Pivot
Core Scientific raised approximately $3.3 billion in debt financing earmarked for expanding AI colocation infrastructure. The capital enables conversion of power-hungry Bitcoin mining facilities into high-density data centers for AI and high-performance computing workloads.
The company's Pecos, Texas campus exemplifies this strategy. The facility is expanding to 1.5 gigawatts of capacity, positioning it as one of the largest AI-ready data center campuses in North America. By Q1 2026, the strategy showed clear results: total revenue reached $115.2 million, up 45% year-over-year, driven primarily by the colocation surge. The company's overall financial picture remains complex due to non-cash accounting charges and continued decline in legacy mining revenues.
