Corporate Treasuries Pivot to Bitcoin as AI Narrative Cools
Strategy and Strive lead a renewed wave of aggressive crypto accumulation amid a broader institutional rally.
Corporate treasury strategies shifted sharply back toward direct cryptocurrency exposure in late August and early September 2026. As Bitcoin prices climbed, major institutional players resumed aggressive accumulation, signaling a pivot away from the AI-centric investment narratives that dominated earlier in the year.
Leading the charge, Strategy ended a two-month purchasing hiatus by acquiring 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million. The firm paid an average price of $80,318 per coin, bringing its total treasury holdings to 845,050 BTC. Similarly, Strive expanded its balance sheet between August 24 and August 28, purchasing 1,800 BTC for approximately $143 million. This acquisition brings Strive's total holdings to 23,156 BTC, establishing the company as the fifth-largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin. Beyond Bitcoin, BitMine Immersion Technologies reported holdings of approximately 5.90 million ETH as of August 30, a figure representing roughly 4.9% of the total Ethereum supply.
The Institutional Shift
This corporate buying spree is occurring alongside a surge in retail and institutional access via regulated products. Bitcoin spot ETFs recently recorded $217 million in daily net inflows, a movement driven largely by BlackRock's IBIT, which accounted for $206 million of that total. This synchronized activity suggests that the current rally is not merely speculative retail trading but a coordinated movement of institutional capital into digital assets.
Why the Pivot Matters
According to Cointelegraph, the market is currently rewarding direct crypto exposure over AI-driven strategies, effectively pushing AI to the back seat. This shift indicates a fundamental change in risk appetite; market participants are prioritizing the immediate capital gains offered by the Bitcoin rally over the longer-term, more speculative growth associated with AI infrastructure. The return of large-scale corporate buying reinforces the thesis that Bitcoin is being cemented as a primary treasury reserve asset for the modern corporation, capable of hedging against traditional fiscal volatility.
What to Watch
Analysts are now monitoring whether this trend toward direct exposure will trigger a wider corporate exodus from AI-centric portfolios. While the Bitcoin and Ethereum accumulation is confirmed, the long-term sustainability of this pivot depends on whether the rally maintains its momentum or if the market returns to a diversified tech-growth strategy. Investors will be watching for further disclosures from other publicly traded firms to see if Strategy and Strive are outliers or the vanguard of a broader treasury realignment.
