HIVE Digital Misses Q2 Filing Deadline Amid Swedish Tax Dispute

Strong revenue growth is overshadowed by contested VAT assessments and a pending non-cash accrual.

Bitcoin miner HIVE Digital Technologies has missed its August 10 deadline to file its Q2 Form 10-Q report for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The delay stems from ongoing accounting and disclosure reviews regarding contested value-added tax (VAT) assessments in Sweden.

According to company disclosures, preliminary revenue for the second quarter is estimated at approximately $79 million. This represents a roughly 73% increase over the $45.6 million reported in the prior-year quarter. However, these top-line gains are complicated by a tax dispute involving Swedish VAT assessments totaling SEK 765.6 million. HIVE warned that it expects to record a non-cash accrual related to this dispute, which will lead to significant increases in both operating and net losses for the period.

The Accounting Conflict

HIVE has been diversifying its operations, expanding its hashrate while moving into high-performance computing (HPC). While the company previously suggested that the Swedish VAT claims were not probable, recent developments in the legal proceedings have shifted that outlook. The company now indicates that the likelihood of requiring a non-cash accrual in its financial statements has increased, necessitating a deeper review of its disclosures before the 10-Q can be finalized.

Market Implications

The tax dispute creates a substantial financial overhang that offsets the company's strong revenue growth. For investors, the lack of a finalized report means there is currently no quantified view of the expected losses. Consequently, the $79 million preliminary revenue figure serves as an incomplete indicator of the company's actual quarterly performance, as the eventual accrual could significantly erode the bottom line.

What to Watch

Market participants are now awaiting the official Form 10-Q filing to determine the exact size of the non-cash accrual and its impact on HIVE's balance sheet. The resolution of the Swedish VAT assessments remains the primary catalyst for the company's short-term financial clarity. It remains to be seen how the final accounting treatment will affect HIVE's broader strategy for HPC expansion and its overall liquidity position.
