KSNet and Solana Foundation to Trial AI-Driven Payments in South Korea

South Korean fintech leader KSNet and the Solana Foundation have entered a strategic partnership to trial blockchain-based payment systems across the country. The collaboration aims to integrate high-speed blockchain efficiency into South Korea's established financial infrastructure while maintaining domestic anti-money laundering (AML) standards.
On July 30, 2026, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch two primary proof-of-concept projects. The first phase focuses on integrating Solana Pay into KSNet's existing network, which has served Korean merchants for over 26 years. This integration targets a potential reach of 330,000 merchants across South Korea, streamlining how businesses settle transactions using the Solana network.
The Shift Toward AI-Native Payments
The second phase of the partnership is more experimental, focusing on the x402 protocol. This system utilizes HTTP 402 status codes to facilitate autonomous, machine-to-machine micropayments between AI agents. By leveraging this protocol, the trial seeks to enable AI entities to transact independently without requiring manual human intervention for every single payment.
This move is part of a broader trend in South Korea to adopt high-throughput blockchains to reduce operational costs and increase transaction speeds. By merging Solana's technical capabilities with KSNet's deep market experience, the partnership attempts to bridge the gap between decentralized ledger technology and traditional KRW settlement networks.
