Blackshear, who served as the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Mysten Labs, will join Anthropic's defensive security research team. While stepping down from his executive duties, Blackshear will maintain a connection to his previous venture, remaining an advisor to Mysten Labs and continuing his support for the Move programming language and the Sui blockchain.

He is widely recognized as the creator of the Move programming language, which was originally developed for Meta's Libra and Diem projects. In 2021, Blackshear co-founded Mysten Labs alongside other former Diem engineers. Together, they leveraged the Move language to build the Sui blockchain and additional infrastructure projects, such as Walrus. Following his departure from the CTO role, Mysten Labs CEO Evan Cheng will assume leadership of the company's technical direction.
