Plata Scales LATAM Operations With Snowflake-Powered Data Warehouse
The Mexican fintech bank transitioned from forensic data analysis to real-time operations to support rapid regional growth.
Plata, a Mexican fintech bank, has overhauled its data infrastructure to transition from retrospective "forensics" to active operational management. The implementation of a high-frequency data warehouse now serves as the backbone for the company's expansion across Latin American markets.
At the center of this transformation is a Snowflake-based data warehouse that refreshes within one hour, a cycle that now underpins 80% to 90% of the company's total data processes. The function was built from the ground up by Ivan Shchukin, Head of Data Warehouse, who was recruited for the role by CTO Andrey Shelekhin. This infrastructure has supported a massive scaling of human capital, with the data team growing from eight members to more than 50 people over a period of three and a half years.
A Modular Approach to Growth
To manage its expansion into new Latin American territories, Plata utilizes a "cell" strategy. Rather than deploying massive teams into every new market, the company seeds new regions with small, agile units of two to four analytics engineers. These cells leverage the central data platform to maintain consistency and speed while adapting to local market needs.
The Shift Toward AI-Driven BI
Plata is currently moving away from traditional business intelligence (BI) frameworks. The company plans to phase out established tools such as Tableau and Apache Superset. In their place, Plata is implementing a custom internal IDE and AI-generated Streamlit applications, signaling a shift toward more automated, programmable data visualization and analysis.
