POSCO International Tokenizes Live Trade Receivables on Injective With LG CNS

South Korean trading giant moves beyond simulated proofs-of-concept to put real commercial invoices on-chain.

TechNewsReel Newsroom · July 27, 2026

POSCO International, one of South Korea's largest trading companies, has launched a pilot program to tokenize live trade receivables on the Injective blockchain in partnership with LG CNS, the IT services arm of LG Group.

The project converts actual commercial invoices between POSCO's global subsidiaries into digital tokens, marking a shift from theoretical blockchain tests to the application of distributed ledger technology on high-value corporate financial data. LG CNS is handling system integration, embedding payment terms, due dates, and regulatory compliance checks directly into the tokenized assets.

From Simulation to Production

Unlike previous blockchain pilots in trade finance that relied on mock data, this initiative processes real receivables owed between POSCO's own subsidiaries. The companies aim to replace siloed databases with a unified on-chain ledger that can accelerate payment processes and reduce settlement cycles.

POSCO International reported 32.37 trillion won (approximately $22.2 billion) in revenue for fiscal year 2025, with key business segments spanning energy, food and agro-products, materials, and trade and investment. The company plans to move the tokenization project to full production after the pilot phase, targeting 2026.

Why Trade Finance Is Looking On-Chain

Trade finance remains a multi-trillion-dollar industry dependent on manual processes, paper documentation, and email-based reconciliation. By tokenizing receivables, POSCO seeks to slash the time spent reconciling intercompany transactions while creating a transparent, immutable audit trail.

The choice of Injective, a layer-1 blockchain optimized for financial applications, reflects growing interest among South Korean corporations in blockchain infrastructure for core business operations. Other local companies have recently explored stablecoin-based treasury transfers and asset tokenization to modernize cross-border payments and reduce operational risk.

A Blueprint for Industrial Tokenization

If successful, the pilot could provide a template for other global trading houses seeking to modernize industrial trade finance. The key differentiator is the use of live commercial data rather than simulated transactions, which tests whether blockchain can handle the complexity and regulatory requirements of actual corporate finance operations.

POSCO and LG CNS did not disclose the volume of receivables being tokenized in the pilot or which specific subsidiaries are participating. The companies also declined to specify whether the tokenized assets would be eligible for secondary market trading or remain confined to internal settlement.

The partnership positions POSCO among a small group of multinational corporations moving blockchain pilots into production environments for core financial processes, rather than limiting the technology to projects that never scale.
