PowerCompute Refinances $18.13M in Debt Using Bitcoin Collateral

The Nasdaq-listed firm slashed borrowing costs by pledging 307 BTC to Arch Lending, replacing high-interest loans with a 2% APR facility.

Nasdaq-listed PowerCompute (PWCM) has refinanced approximately $18.13 million of existing debt through a new Bitcoin-backed credit facility. The move allows the company to drastically reduce its interest expenses while maintaining its long-term holdings of the digital asset.

To secure the facility with Arch Lending, PowerCompute pledged 307 BTC from its treasury as collateral. This new arrangement consolidates three previous loans: an $11 million loan from Galaxy Digital and two separate loans from Liebel totaling $7 million ($5 million and $2 million, respectively). The new facility carries an initial interest rate of approximately 2% APR, a significant drop from previous borrowing costs that reached as high as 12%.

Strategic Pivot to AI

Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, PowerCompute operates power infrastructure across Mississippi and Oklahoma. While the company has roots in Bitcoin mining, it is currently undergoing a strategic transition. The firm is shifting its focus toward high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, diversifying its operational capabilities beyond the crypto-mining sector.

Bruce M. Rodgers, Chairman, CEO, and President of PowerCompute, stated that the refinancing reduces interest expenses while allowing the company to keep strategic exposure to its Bitcoin treasury as it continues expanding into HPC and AI infrastructure.

The Rise of BTC-Backed Lending

This transaction reflects a broader institutional trend where corporate treasuries use Bitcoin as a productive asset rather than a static reserve. By utilizing BTC as collateral, companies can unlock necessary liquidity and lower their cost of capital without being forced to sell their assets. This strategy avoids the tax implications of a sale and ensures the company benefits from any future price appreciation of Bitcoin.

Future Outlook

As PowerCompute continues its pivot toward AI infrastructure, the company's ability to manage its debt load will be critical to its expansion. Market observers will be watching how the firm leverages its power infrastructure in Oklahoma and Mississippi to support the energy-intensive demands of AI workloads. While the 307 BTC collateral secures the current debt, the company's treasury management remains a key metric for its overall financial stability during this transition.
