Ripple targets $13 trillion corporate treasury market to scale RLUSD

The company is leveraging its $1 billion GTreasury acquisition to move RLUSD from a crypto asset into core financial infrastructure.

Ripple is pivoting its stablecoin strategy toward the enterprise sector, targeting a $13 trillion annual transaction opportunity within corporate treasuries to scale its RLUSD token. The move signals a strategic shift to integrate stablecoins directly into the operational workflows of global corporations.

To capture this market, Ripple is leveraging its $1 billion acquisition of GTreasury. According to Jack McDonald, Ripple's SVP of Stablecoins, the customer base provided by this acquisition had not previously been active on-chain, yet they handle roughly $13 trillion in transactions annually. McDonald described this opportunity set as "massive," noting that the goal is to evolve stablecoins from simple crypto assets into essential components of financial infrastructure.

Institutional Integration

This strategy is part of a broader effort to build an end-to-end institutional ecosystem. By combining GTreasury with Hidden Road to form Ripple Prime, the company is integrating custody, trading, payments, and prime brokerage services. This infrastructure is designed to transition RLUSD from a trading tool into a primary vehicle for institutional money movement and capital market settlements.

RLUSD has already seen significant growth in its footprint. The stablecoin's circulating supply has reached approximately $2.4 billion, and it has expanded its availability to several networks, including Base, Ink, Optimism, and Unichain. This multi-chain approach allows Ripple to maintain a presence across various liquidity hubs while remaining selective about its blockchain expansion.

Global Regulatory Expansion

Beyond the U.S. corporate market, Ripple is aggressively pursuing a presence in Europe. The company is implementing a MiCA-compliant dual-issuance structure to ensure regulatory alignment within the European Union. As part of this expansion, Ripple has already received Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) authorization from the CSSF in Luxembourg, providing a legal gateway to operate within the European market.

Why It Matters

This pivot represents a fundamental shift in stablecoin utility, moving away from crypto-native trading and toward enterprise-grade financial operations. By bridging the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and on-chain rails, Ripple aims to position RLUSD as the standard for cross-border corporate payments. If successful, this could reduce the friction and cost associated with traditional corporate treasury management by replacing legacy settlement systems with real-time blockchain technology.

What's Next

Market observers will be watching for the actual adoption rate of RLUSD among the GTreasury client base to see if corporate CFOs are willing to migrate $13 trillion in volume to on-chain rails. Additionally, the full rollout of the MiCA-compliant structure in Europe will determine how effectively Ripple can compete with existing stablecoin issuers in the EU's highly regulated environment.
