Sixty-Six Capital Shifts to Direct Bitcoin Holdings, Launches $2.5M Fundraise
The CSE-listed firm is converting ETF exposure to direct BTC and issuing new shares to accelerate its accumulation strategy.
Sixty-Six Capital Inc. (CSE: SIX) is accelerating its Bitcoin accumulation strategy by transitioning from passive ETF exposure to direct asset ownership. The move signals a strategic shift in how the Canadian investment firm manages its digital asset reserves.
As part of this transition, the company recently purchased 18.2 BTC for CAD$2,634,450, utilizing a combination of cash and balance sheet assets. Beyond this immediate purchase, Sixty-Six Capital announced plans to convert its existing holdings of 113 BTC equivalent, currently held via the BTCC.B ETF, into direct Bitcoin holdings. To further fuel this acquisition drive, the firm is initiating a non-brokered private placement of up to 24,510,714 common shares priced at CAD$0.14 per share, aiming to raise up to USD$2,500,000 for Bitcoin purchases and general working capital.
The Shift to Direct Custody
Sixty-Six Capital operates as an investment company listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange, specializing in assets within the cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence sectors. The decision to move away from the BTCC.B ETF reflects a broader trend among corporate treasuries that are increasingly adopting Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset. By moving to direct holdings, the company eliminates the intermediary layer of an exchange-traded fund, opting instead for active custody of the underlying asset.
Market Implications
This strategic pivot represents a transition from passive investment to high-conviction custody. By utilizing equity financing through a private placement specifically to acquire more Bitcoin, Sixty-Six Capital is adopting a capital-markets-driven accumulation model similar to that used by MicroStrategy. This approach allows the company to leverage its position as a public entity to increase its BTC holdings without relying solely on existing cash reserves.
Future Outlook
Investors will now be watching the execution of the private placement and the timeline for the conversion of the ETF holdings. While the company has expressed a desire to accelerate its accumulation, the total amount of Bitcoin eventually acquired will depend on the success of the USD$2.5 million share issuance. The company's ability to successfully transition its balance sheet to a Bitcoin-centric model remains the primary focal point for the coming quarter.
