Visa Bridges VisaNet Data and Onchain Lending to Fund Stablecoin Cards

The payments giant is integrating traditional settlement data with blockchain infrastructure to automate working capital for fintechs.

Visa is combining its proprietary VisaNet settlement data with onchain lending infrastructure to provide essential working capital for stablecoin-linked card programs. The move aims to automate credit assessments and financing by allowing lenders to analyze settlement receivables alongside real-time onchain transaction records.

This initiative targets a growing market sector where more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs now operate on the Visa network. These programs have seen a surge in adoption, with payment volume increasing nearly 200% year over year. By integrating these data streams, Visa enables lenders to provide liquidity to fintechs based on verified payment flows rather than relying on traditional, manual underwriting processes.

Bridging the Capital Gap

Traditional lending models often require significant scale or intensive manual oversight, which frequently creates a working capital gap for emerging crypto-payment companies. By positioning itself as the infrastructure for onchain finance, Visa is evolving the role of stablecoins from simple trading assets into active components of automated credit markets. This integration allows institutional-grade credit to flow into the crypto ecosystem, backed by the reliability of real-world payment volume.

Proven Performance

The viability of this model has already been demonstrated through an early pilot with Credit Coop. Since 2023, this partnership has financed more than $2.5 billion in cumulative settlement volume with zero defaults across participating facilities. The operational efficiency of the system is further highlighted by the fact that the Credit Coop model has programmatically processed more than 3,000 borrow events and 9,000 repayment events directly onchain.

Industry Implications

This integration represents a significant bridge between legacy payment networks and decentralized finance (DeFi). By validating the utility of stablecoins in everyday commerce, Visa is providing a scalable blueprint for how traditional financial giants can integrate onchain lending to support their partners. The shift suggests a future where credit is extended not through static balance sheets, but through dynamic, programmable data streams.

What to Watch

As Visa expands this capability beyond the initial pilot, the industry will be watching for the onboarding of additional lending partners and the potential for this model to support a wider array of digital asset-linked financial products. While the Credit Coop results show a strong start, the long-term scalability of automated onchain credit will depend on the continued growth of stablecoin payment volumes and the stability of the underlying blockchain infrastructure.
