A critical memory corruption vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Open vSwitch (OVS) datapath allows unprivileged local users to escalate their privileges to root. The flaw, codenamed OVSwrap and tracked as CVE-2026-64531, impacts a wide range of default-configured Linux distributions.

The vulnerability is an integer wraparound flaw located specifically within the kernel datapath of the Open vSwitch module, rather than the userspace daemon. According to security reports, the flaw carries a CVSS score of 7.8. To successfully exploit the bug, the OVS kernel module must be available on the system and unprivileged user namespaces must be permitted. The risk is amplified by the release of a public proof-of-concept exploit, which includes pre-built records for approximately 800 different kernel builds to streamline the attack process.
