TechRadar recently reported that a new electric vehicle from Denza could potentially travel from New York City to Detroit on a single charge, a feat that would bridge one of the most significant gaps between battery power and internal combustion convenience.
According to the report, the BYD Denza Z9S and Z9 GT claim a range of up to 1,100 kilometers, which translates to approximately 683 miles. Given that the driving distance from New York City to Detroit is roughly 614 miles, these figures suggest the vehicle could theoretically complete the journey without stopping to recharge. However, these figures are based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), a laboratory standard known for being more optimistic than real-world highway driving or EPA estimates.
The Battery Density Leap
Most current high-end electric vehicles peak at ranges between 300 and 500 miles. For a vehicle to realistically target a 600-mile threshold, it requires a substantial leap in battery density or overall energy efficiency.
