Hyundai Opens Orders for IONIQ 3 Compact EV Starting Under $30,000

Hyundai has officially opened orders for the IONIQ 3, its first entry-level electric compact hatchback, across the UK and European markets. The launch marks a strategic expansion into the affordable EV sector, aiming to make electric mobility accessible to a wider demographic of drivers.
The base "Advance" trim, equipped with a 42 kWh battery, starts at £22,245 (approximately $29,800). According to company specifications, the IONIQ 3 will be available with two battery configurations: a 42.2 kWh pack providing up to 213 miles of WLTP range, and a larger 61 kWh option offering up to 308 miles. To maintain the lower price point, Hyundai utilized a 400V architecture, which supports DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in roughly 29 minutes. Production is already underway at Hyundai's Izmit plant in Turkey.
Strategic Market Positioning
The IONIQ 3 is Hyundai's first foray into the B-segment electric vehicle market, a category that currently accounts for 15% of total sales in Europe. Built on the company's E-GMP platform, the vehicle is designed specifically to compete with the Renault 5 and an increasing wave of affordable electric vehicles from Chinese manufacturers, such as BYD.
