Kia PV7 Electric Van Spotted Testing Ahead of September Reveal
The larger sibling to the PV5 has been seen on European roads as Kia prepares for its official debut at IAA Transportation.
Kia is accelerating its push into the electric commercial sector, with the PV7 Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) recently spotted undergoing public road tests in Europe. The large-scale electric van was observed towing a test trailer, signaling that the vehicle is entering the final stages of validation before its official full reveal on September 14, 2026, at IAA Transportation in Hanover, Germany.
The PV7 represents a significant scale-up in Kia's PBV strategy. According to data from the CES 2024 concept, the vehicle measures 5,270 mm in length, 2,065 mm in width, and 2,120 mm in height, supported by a 3,390 mm wheelbase. These dimensions position the PV7 as a substantially larger offering than its predecessor, the PV5, providing the increased volume necessary for heavy-duty commercial use or expanded passenger transport.
The PBV Ecosystem
This expansion follows the strong market entry of the PV5, which has already established a firm foothold in the European market. In the first half of 2026, the PV5 accounted for 37% of the C-segment EV van market in Europe, demonstrating a high demand for dedicated electric utility platforms. Both the PV5 and the upcoming PV7 are built on the E-GMP.S platform, a specialized architecture designed for the unique requirements of purpose-built vehicles. To complement the hardware, Kia is integrating dedicated PBV software powered by Hyundai Pleos, aimed at optimizing fleet management and vehicle utility.
Strategic Implications
By introducing the PV7, Kia is moving to dominate the electric van segment by covering multiple size brackets. The move allows the company to target a broader array of business and personal users who require more interior space and towing capacity than the PV5 can provide. This tiered approach is a central pillar of Kia's strategy to capture the commercial EV market in Europe and other global regions, transitioning from traditional van conversions to ground-up electric utility designs.
