Waymo and Hyundai to Deploy IONIQ 5 Robotaxis from Georgia Plant

Hyundai and Waymo have entered into a multi-year strategic partnership to integrate Waymo's sixth-generation self-driving technology, known as the Waymo Driver, into the Hyundai IONIQ 5. The collaboration aims to scale the deployment of autonomous ride-hailing services by combining one of the industry's most advanced AI drivers with a mass-produced electric vehicle platform.
Under the terms of the agreement, the autonomous IONIQ 5s will be manufactured at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia. Once produced, these vehicles will be integrated into the Waymo One commercial fleet. Production and on-road testing of the first autonomous IONIQ 5s are expected to begin in 2025.
