$2 Stickers Defeat Meta Smart Glasses' Anti-Creep Security
Third-party LED blockers bypass Meta's July 2026 tamper protection, prompting Instagram to ban harassers using altered glasses.
Meta's bystander privacy safeguards for its smart glasses have been undermined by inexpensive third-party accessories that disable the recording indicator light without triggering anti-tamper security.
The Bypass
LED-blocking stickers sold on TikTok Shop and Amazon effectively hide the recording light on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses. The products use a two-part system: a clear plastic piece with notches paired with a black sticker that blocks the external view.
Meta rolled out a software update in July 2026 designed to disable cameras if the LED is physically broken or tampered with. These stickers circumvent that protection by avoiding hardware damage entirely. Engadget's hands-on testing found the LED was not detectable at all when worn outdoors on second-gen Ray-Ban Meta glasses, though some light remains detectable up close or at an angle.
Clip-on LED blockers are also available for the Oakley Meta Vanguard, priced at $15 for 10 covers. The RCstyle HiBloks brand sells the adhesive versions.
Meta's Response
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the company will ban users who post harassing content filmed with altered Meta glasses. The policy has already been enforced: two creator accounts with over 1 million followers were removed for violating it.
A TikTok user promoting the LED blockers told Engadget: "I'm telling you guys right now, the new update's not going to do anything because the sensor just doesn't know that it's being blocked."

The availability of these bypass accessories exposes a fundamental limitation in Meta's privacy safeguards. Software-based detection cannot reliably account for simple physical obstructions that leave hardware intact.
