Apple Debuts iPhone 18 Pro with 2nm A20 Chip and Variable Aperture Camera

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, introducing a suite of hardware refinements designed to distance the new flagships from the iPhone 17 Pro. The update centers on a transition to 2nm silicon and a first-of-its-kind camera system, signaling a strategic pivot toward professional-grade creative tools and enhanced AI efficiency.
The most significant hardware leap is the A20 Pro chip, now built on a 2nm process. This new silicon features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, which doubles the core count found in the previous A19 Pro. Alongside the processor, Apple has introduced the C2 cellular modem. Developed in-house, the C2 modem offers faster upload speeds and consumes 15% less energy than the C1X.

These gains are a result of the combined efficiencies of the 2nm A20 chip and the lower-power C2 modem.

Starting costs for the flagship tier have increased by $100, with the iPhone 18 Pro beginning at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max starting at $1,299.
