Audi Revives A2 Nameplate With High-Efficiency e-tron Compact

Audi has unveiled the A2 e-tron, a compact electric vehicle designed as the brand's most efficient series-production model to date. Revealed in Paris on September 7, 2026, the vehicle marks the return of a nameplate synonymous with efficiency and urban utility.

The new A2 e-tron offers several configurations to balance cost and performance. The entry-level 125 kW model, equipped with a 52 kWh battery, starts at €38,200 in Germany. For those prioritizing range, the 170 kW version featuring an 84 kWh battery delivers a maximum WLTP range of 646 km (401 miles). Audi also offers a 140 kW version that, when paired with an optional efficiency package, achieves a record-breaking energy consumption rate of 12.8 kWh/100 km (WLTP).

A Return to Efficiency

The A2 nameplate originally debuted in 1999, gaining a reputation for lightweight aluminum construction before production ceased in 2005. The 2026 e-tron iteration returns to this philosophy of optimization over excess. The vehicle is built on a compact footprint with a 2.77-meter wheelbase and utilizes a highly aerodynamic profile, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.24.

To support rapid urban turnaround, the top-tier 84 kWh battery model supports 183 kW DC charging. According to company specifications, this allows the vehicle to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes. The lineup includes three battery capacities: 52 kWh, 61 kWh, and 84 kWh.

This launch represents a strategic pivot for Audi toward affordable, entry-level electric mobility. Rather than competing solely on battery size, Audi is prioritizing energy reduction through advanced aerodynamics and silicon-carbide drives. Potential buyers in Germany can begin placing orders for the A2 e-tron starting September 10, 2026. Audi expects the first customer deliveries to commence in December 2026.
