The toothpick method requires patience. Gently scrape along the port's interior surfaces to hook and extract fiber buildup that prevents cables from seating fully. Many users report their charging cables suddenly "click" into place after removing months of accumulated pocket lint.

What Not to Use

The guide issues explicit warnings against several common but dangerous cleaning approaches. Metallic tools—including pins, paperclips, and SIM ejector tools—can scratch contact surfaces or create shorts that permanently disable the port.

Fiber-shedding materials like cotton swabs present another hazard. Rather than removing debris, cotton fibers can detach and pack tighter into the port, worsening the connection problem.

"WD-40 can cause permanent damage to electronics, while it may also leave a residue that encourages dirt and dust to build up."
