Enough Phone Aims to Revive the Compact Android Market

A new startup is prototyping a small-form smartphone with a user-replaceable battery to challenge the era of oversized devices.

A new startup has unveiled the Enough Phone, a compact Android device designed to challenge the industry's shift toward oversized screens. Currently in the prototyping stage, the project seeks to provide a functional alternative for users who find modern flagships cumbersome.

The device is centered around a 5.3-inch display and prioritizes hardware longevity through a removable back plate and a user-replaceable modular battery, estimated to be between 3,500mAh and 4,000mAh. Under the hood, the Enough Phone is slated to feature a MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. On the software side, the company plans to ship the device with OdysseyOS, a custom skin based on Android 17.

The Decline of the Mini Phone

This launch comes at a time when compact options have largely vanished from the mainstream market. Major manufacturers have systematically phased out smaller models; Apple discontinued the iPhone mini line after the 13 series, and other brands like ASUS have similarly exited the small-phone space. This vacuum has left a gap for users who want modern smartphone capabilities without the physical footprint of a phablet. The Enough Phone positions itself as a middle ground, bridging the gap between mid-range performance and the minimalist ethos of the 'dumbphone' movement.

Testing Market Viability

The project serves as a critical test of whether a viable consumer market still exists for small, repairable Android hardware in an era dominated by AI-driven, large-screen flagships. By focusing on repairability and size, the startup is betting that a niche of users is willing to move away from the ecosystem of the giants in favor of sustainability and ergonomics. However, the path from prototype to pocket is notoriously difficult for hardware startups, making the initial community response a key indicator of potential success.

The Path to Production

Before moving toward a full commercial release, the company is focusing on community validation. The startup is currently building an interest list and aims to reach 20,000 sign-ups before officially launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund production. Observers will be watching to see if this threshold is met, as it will determine if the project has enough momentum to survive the complex crowdfunding-to-production pipeline that has claimed many previous niche smartphone attempts.
