Garmin Enters Screenless Tracker Market With $199 Cirqa, No Mandatory Subscription
The fitness giant's first display-free wearable undercuts Whoop's subscription model while leveraging Garmin's established health analytics ecosystem.
Garmin has officially entered the screenless fitness tracker market with the Cirqa Smart Band, a bracelet-style wearable that monitors health metrics without a display. Announced July 21, 2026, and priced at $199.99, the device positions itself as a direct alternative to subscription-dependent competitors like Whoop.
The Subscription-Free Pitch
The Cirqa's most significant differentiator is its pricing model. At $199.99 with no mandatory subscription, it undercuts Whoop's annual fees that can reach $359 per year. Garmin does offer an optional Garmin Connect+ subscription at $6.99 per month, which unlocks nutrition tracking, live heart rate during workouts, and advanced coaching—but core functionality remains accessible without recurring payments.
Hardware and Battery Life
The device weighs approximately 20-21 grams depending on size (20.7g for S/M, 21.2g for L/XL; the module alone is 14.8g) and carries a 5 ATM water rating for swimming. Battery life reaches 10 days on a single charge, competitive with other screenless trackers that prioritize longevity over feature density.
Garmin offers the Cirqa in seven launch colors: Black, Captain Blue, French Gray, Mauve, Citron Gray, Dark Olive, and French Blue. Two size options (S/M and L/XL) accommodate different wrist circumferences. The device can also be worn on the bicep or upper arm with official accessory bands available separately for $59.99.
Tracking Capabilities
Despite lacking a display, the Cirqa identifies over 80 different activities and workouts. All data syncs to the Garmin Connect app, where users can monitor sleep, heart rate, Body Battery (Garmin's energy-level metric), Pulse Ox, and skin temperature. This leverages Garmin's established reputation for deep health analytics, traditionally found in its higher-end GPS watches.
Market Context
The screenless tracker segment has grown around the premise that continuous health monitoring shouldn't require the distractions of a smartwatch display. Whoop pioneered this approach, focusing on recovery and performance metrics. Garmin's entry validates the category while offering an alternative for users already invested in the Garmin ecosystem or those deterred by mandatory subscription fees.
The Cirqa becomes available July 24, 2026.
