Genki Manta Controller Embeds MantaOS and Touchscreen to Kill Companion Apps

The premium wireless controller integrates a full operating system and 2.79-inch display, allowing hardware-level tuning without external software.

Genki has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Manta, a premium wireless controller designed to bring deep hardware customization directly to the device. The controller aims to eliminate the industry's reliance on external configuration software by integrating its own display and operating system.

The Manta features a 2.79-inch integrated color touchscreen powered by MantaOS, allowing users to manage macros and settings on-device. According to technical specifications provided by Notebookcheck and Genki's Kickstarter page, the hardware includes Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) sticks, TriStage triggers, and a wired polling rate of 8K. Additionally, the device includes "on-the-fly KBM" functionality, which enables the controller to operate as a keyboard and mouse for PC navigation.

A Shift in Controller Configuration

Genki previously established its market presence through gaming accessories, such as docks for the Nintendo Switch. With the Manta, the company is pivoting toward the enthusiast "Pro" market. Most high-end customizable controllers currently require a companion mobile or desktop application to adjust deadzones, remap buttons, or create complex macros. By embedding a full OS and screen into the chassis, Genki is attempting to remove this friction, allowing for immediate, hardware-level tuning without switching devices or exiting a game.

Industry Implications

The Manta enters a competitive landscape of boutique controllers and high-performance peripherals. By combining an 8K polling rate with TMR sticks—which are generally more durable and precise than standard potentiometers—Genki is targeting the most demanding segment of the PC gaming market. The inclusion of keyboard and mouse emulation suggests a strategic attempt to capture the legacy of the Steam Controller, offering a versatile input method for users who navigate complex PC interfaces but prefer a handheld form factor.

Availability and Pricing

Genki describes the Manta as "the most ambitious product we've ever built." The controller carries a listed retail price of $279, though "Super Early Bird" pricing on Kickstarter starts at $189. If the campaign meets its goals, Genki expects to begin shipping the first units to backers in February 2027.
