Google cancels AI Studio mobile app to integrate development into Gemini

Google has canceled the dedicated AI Studio mobile app for Android and iOS, a tool originally teased during the I/O 2026 keynote. Instead of launching a separate application, the company is integrating these development capabilities directly into the Gemini app.
The decision comes despite significant early interest; over 800,000 users had pre-ordered the AI Studio app on the App Store and Google Play before the cancellation. The Google AI Studio team stated that rather than asking users to download another app, they are pursuing an approach where "apps emerge naturally, in the course of your everyday conversations with Gemini."
The Shift to Conversational Development
This pivot follows the introduction of Antigravity 2.0 at I/O 2026, an agentic developer suite designed as a unified brand for AI coding harnesses. The AI Studio mobile app was originally intended as the mobile entry point for this workflow, allowing developers to capture ideas on the go and have working prototypes ready by the time they reached a desktop. While the mobile app is gone, the AI Studio website (aistudio.google.com) will remain active for users transitioning from initial ideas to prompts and for business applications.
