This tool shifts the navigation priority from the fastest arrival time to the most economical path, helping drivers reduce both their monthly spending and their environmental footprint.

To optimize the feature, users can specify their vehicle's engine type—gas, diesel, hybrid, or electric—directly in the app settings. The system then tailors the route to the specific mechanics of the vehicle. For instance, diesel vehicles are routed to leverage their fuel economy advantage on motorways, while hybrids and EVs are directed toward paths that maximize regenerative braking, such as stop-start town driving or hilly terrain. When active, these eco-friendly paths are identified by a green leaf icon within the Google Maps interface and on Android Auto.
