Google Meet's 'Studio' Settings Can Replace Expensive Hardware

Google Meet users can significantly upgrade their on-camera presence and audio clarity by adjusting overlooked software settings. These tools allow professionals to simulate high-end production environments using existing consumer hardware.
According to a guide from Android Police, users can bypass the often "soft" appearance of automatic resolution by manually adjusting both "Send resolution" and "Receive resolution" within the Video settings menu. While these manual overrides improve visual crispness, the ability to send video in 1080p remains restricted to specific Google Workspace editions.
AI-Powered Visuals
To address poor home office lighting, Google has introduced "Studio lighting." This feature allows users to simulate professional setups by adding two adjustable light sources, complete with intensity sliders and a palette of seven different colors. These adjustments help prevent users from appearing washed out under harsh overhead lighting, a detail that becomes critical during a full day of back-to-back calls.
Additionally, the "Framing" tool automatically centers the user within the video frame. However, there is a technical caveat to its behavior: continuous recentering only remains active if the user is also utilizing a virtual background. Without a virtual background, the tool only frames the user once upon joining the call.
Audio and Accessibility
On the audio front, Google has rebranded its noise cancellation tool as "Studio sound." This feature uses AI to filter out non-speech background noise from the microphone, ensuring that only the speaker's voice is transmitted to other participants.
