The 'Android > obb' directory is designed to store Opaque Binary Blobs—large asset packages that include 3D graphics, music, and video files. This section stores residual files from apps that were installed and, in some cases, uninstalled, including cached data, downloaded content, and configuration files. Because these assets are often massive, the folder can quickly become a primary source of storage bloat.
The Visibility Gap
Managing this storage is increasingly difficult due to the way the Android operating system handles file permissions. The OBB folder is frequently hidden or restricted in standard file managers on newer Android versions. This is a result of scoped storage restrictions implemented by Google to improve security and privacy, but it creates a visibility gap for the average user.
