Honor Debuts 'Robot Phone' with Integrated Robotic Gimbal Camera
The China-exclusive flagship serves as a high-end testbed for embodied AI and professional cinema color science.
Honor has launched the 'Robot Phone' in China, a flagship device featuring a built-in robotic gimbal camera arm that unfolds from the rear. Positioned as a technical showcase for creators rather than a mass-market product, the device signals a strategic shift toward integrating physical robotics into consumer electronics.
The centerpiece is a robotic gimbal motor weighing 2.6g and measuring 6mm thin—approximately 65% smaller than the DJI Osmo Pocket series. This hardware supports a sophisticated camera array led by a 200MP 1/1.28" main sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. The system is rounded out by a 200MP 1/1.4" 2.7x telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide shooter.
A Testbed for Cinema
The Robot Phone is a key component of Honor's 'ALPHA PLAN,' an initiative aimed at leading the AI device ecosystem. To elevate imaging capabilities, Honor partnered with ARRI to integrate professional cinema color science, including Log-C3 and LUT grading. The company is using the Robot Phone as a real-world testbed for these professional profiles before they are integrated into the upcoming Magic9 series.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16. It features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen capable of 6,800nit peak brightness. To support these power-hungry components, Honor included a 7,060 mAh battery with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The base model, configured with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, is priced at CNY 9,999, or approximately $1,482.
The Shift to Embodied AI
This launch represents a move from purely software-based AI toward 'embodied AI,' where artificial intelligence controls physical movement to enhance user experience. By merging a professional-grade stabilizer with a smartphone, Honor is attempting to redefine mobile cinematography and the way users interact with their hardware. The integration of a physical arm allows the device to move beyond the static form factors that have dominated the market since the rise of foldables.
